Following the presidential initiative on Ease of Doing Business in Nigeria, a 23-man National Presidential Committee on Trade Facilitation has visited the Tin Can Island port for on the spot assessment.
The committee headed by Alhaji Aliu Abubakar explained on Monday at the Tin Can port on Lagos that the visit was to access the challenges and successes of the command with a view of preferring solutions to the challenges.
Abubakar assured stakeholders of recommendations to fast track trade facilitation in and around the port.
In his response, the Customs Area Controller, Tin Can Port; ComptrollerMusa Abdullahi mentioned infrastructure with emphasis on the deplorable road around Apapa and time of clearance and non- compliance to directive as the bane of ease of doing business in the command.
Comptroller Abdullahi told the committee that he had inaugurated a Standing Dispute Resolution Committee, upgrade of some facilities to aid trade and a vibrant help desk for trade facilitation.
A Quarantine Service official, Mr. Emmanuel Folorunsho recounted the complex nature of the agency’s work in the port, he lamented that its officials manually carry out duties.
Also, a cross section of the stakeholders appealed to the government through the committee to hasten the pace of Apapa road constriction.
