The Seme command of the Nigeria Customs Service has seized a smuggled L450 SUV that was disguised with posters of a deceased person supposedly going for burial.
The disguised jeep which was purportedly taken a corpse for burial was discovered to be smuggled into the country.
In statement sent to Shipping Position Daily yesterday and signed Customs Public Relation Officer (PRO) , Seme Area Command; Mr Taupyen, Selchang, it was explained that, apart from the SUV, a waste disposal truck was also seized.
According to the PRO, the truck was found to have been stuffed with 534 pieces of used tyres. The two vehicles were discovered by mobile patrol teams led by CSC Ali, A.M and SC Mwada, I.G along the Lagos-Badagry express way.
Commenting on the two seizures, the Customs Area Controller assured “that no amount of antics devised by smugglers will go undetected by the officers and men whose eagle eyes are always beaming on every nook and crannies of the border”.
He further re-stated that implementing the policy of the federal government on ban on importation of new and fairly-used vehicles through the land border without compromise is a task that must be done by officers of the command.
The PRO gave the identities of suspects arrested in connection with the two seizures as: Taofiq Oyewale and Segun Oyinola, he added that the two are currently undergoing interrogation and prosecution.
