The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) said it would partner with the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development to establish truck transit parks to solve indiscriminate parking of trailers on the road.
Mr Hassan Bello, Executive Secretary of the Council disclosed this in an interview on Monday in Abuja.
He said that the Truck Transit Park would be a modern infrastructure based on public private partnership which would generate revenue for the government.
“We are going to start the implementation of our Truck Transit park, this truck transit park are also modern infrastructure which will enable us check cases of trailers parking indiscriminately on the road.
“This is a modern park and we have secured a land in Enugu and Kogi; we want to build modern car port through public private partnership.
“ NSC is already discussing with ECOWAS Bank, we have had meetings in their headquarters,’’ he said.
Bello, however, said the park facilities would include hostel, hotel, gas station, mechanic, restaurants and police stations which would be a revenue spinner.
He further said that the council plans to open border information centres at Seme border and at JBI Katsina to formalise informal trade.
“We are opening our border information centres at Seme border and Jibya in Katsina; there is so much informal trade going on between this two countries and there is no information.
“So NSC as a trade facilitator would formalised this trade link, the level of inter African trade is low, we have to raise it, “he said.
