The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has said that the agency will be soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nigerian Chamber of Shipping.
Executive Secretary of the Council; Hassan Bello said this yesterday when officials of the chamber of shipping led by its President, Mr Andrew Isiche paid the council a courtesy visit.
Bello also said that the council is also going to form a three-man committee to liaise with the chamber of shipping in other to find out ways to boost the efficiency of the port system.
"There are lots of issues the council will handle with Chamber of Shipping. I will be appointing a three-man committee to work with the chamber and see areas of cooperation, if possible sign and MoU." Bello said that there are lots of things the Council will do with Chamber
"What Shippers Council does deserve an MoU with Chamber of Shipping. I am glad that you are here, we are also mindful of our financial contributions to the chamber"
"Our three man committee will look at things and get back to us. I am happy that you are here with your delegation, this is the beginning of many things to come", he assured.
He however charged the terminal operators to be more competitive in other to move the sector forward.
"This government has done a lot for the industry. It is left for us to work, so that we can have more efficiency, everything is competitive; including our ports"
"Our terminals must compete with other terminals around the world. We are looking at so many things that can determine the efficiency to encourage competition because there must be competition"
The NSC boss however appreciated the cooperation of the terminal operators even as he stressed the need to audit terminal operators
In his remark, the president of Chamber of Shipping, Mr Andy Isichie said that the visit was to commend the NSC on the roles it has been playing in the sector.
"The chamber being an umbrella body of the key stakeholders in the sector is quite conscious of its responsibilities. And in keeping this alive, we visit regulators and entities that are the frontiers of affairs; Shippers council is clearly one of those entities. So this visit is to commend them for the roles they have been playing to move the sector forward", he said.
