Two of SIFAX off-dock terminals situated at Okota (a suburb in Lagos State) have been designated for transfer of all imported vehicles from the Ports and Cargo Handling Services terminal at Tin Can Island port in Lagos.
Shipping Position Daily investigations revealed that the two terminals at the Okota axis have been handling transfer of the used vehicles, immediately after the maiden call of RoRo vessel; MV Glovis Supreme at the terminal last Friday.
The vehicles, which are of different makes and models were lined up outside the terminal in batches for onward transfer to the off dock facilities.
“SIFAX Transfer Bond” stickers were also seen affix on the windscreens of all the vehicles , as they await transfer.
Confirming the development to our correspondent on Monday, Head Corporate Affairs and Marketing of Sifax; Mr. Muyiwa Akande assured that the terminals at Okota have the capacity to handle more than 1,500 units of vehicles at once.
According to him, on a monthly basis it is expected that a vehicle-laden vessel will call at Ports and Cargo terminal at Tin Can island Port.
The spokesman stressed that the imported vehicles have been moving in batches since last Friday when the vessel arrived at the port, adding that the transfer may end on Monday evening.
Akande added that most of the transfers are for cars, explaining that, all imported used trucks would remain at the Ports and Cargo terminal.
"We have two terminals at Okota designated for RoRo operations and since the vessel berthed at our terminal, we immediately commenced the transfer processes to those terminals"
"Since Friday when the vessel berthed, we have been transferring the vehicles from the ports to the off-dock terminal and so, by now I believe the process might end today", he stated.
