SIFAX Group; owners of Port and Cargo Handling Services AT Tin Can Island port in Lagos said yesterday that it has invested about 18 million Euroes on acquisition of harbor cranes.
Speaking during a mid-year briefing with journalists, the Group Managing Director (GMD), Mr. Adekunle Abdulrazak Oyinloye said that the cranes will soon arrive the country.
Oyinloye said that as a public interest group, the company owes it a duty to put across the impact of the company to the society.
He told the media that Sifax Group has been in existence for about 31 years and that the company’s balance sheet is beginning to increase much more than before.
“And we began this year looking into the future of the maritime industry with a plan to ensure that we position ourselves for what it’s likely to happen in the industry, and we are very happy that by looking into the future, it has given birth to what will call five years’ strategic plan and it is in the planning and executing those plans that we have the new people we have brought on board to drive the new business that we see. And that is the reason for positioning ourselves to having increase number of bonded terminals”.
He disclosed that the group has also invested in a financial company in Lagos, adding that the group is also looking at investing in the hospitality. To his end, he added that Sifax Group will unveil a new five star hotel at Ikeja by the first quarter of 2020.
Speaking on some of the challenges faced by the company in carrying out its activities in the port, Oyinloye said “Our major challenge still remains access road to the port, and we wish the road can be hasten up”.
“We will also wish that government can think beyond the road to link the Tin Can island port by rail”, he added.
“Another challenge we seem to also have is the issue of human capacity development, the company is spending a lot on training which is a challenge, so we are creating more opportunities for our staff to take up the challenges that may occur at our various companies.”
Also, speaking, the General Manager Haulage and Logistics Mr. Adewale Adetayo also informed that the company has requested for 25 additional brand new trucks to be added to the 75 trucks already on ground.
