A 31-year old truck driver; Ashiru Abdullahi was yesterday arraigned before an Apapa magistrates court for manslaughter.
The Prosecutor; Sergeant Kolade Tedunjaye, told the court that the defendant who is a driver of an Iveco truck with registration number, App 23 XJ, committed the offence 2nd of April, 2019 at Pako market along Maza Maza road, Old Ojo in Apapa magisterial district.
Kolade said that the defendant drove in a public highway in a dangerous manner thereby causing the death of a 57 year old Yakubu Muhammed.
She also said that the defendant also damaged a tricycle with registration number, MUS 674 QS belonging to one Lawal Muhammed.
The prosecutor also said that the defendant also damaged a Honda Pilot SUV with registration number, FST 153 CV belonging to one Nnajiofor Edward.
She said that the offences are punishable under sections, 29(1) of RTA 1/4 Vol 6, section 20 of Lagos state traffic law and section 20(1) of RTA cap 124 Vol 5 laws of Lagos state 2015.
The defendant; Abdullahi, who is facing a two- count charge of reckless driving, and manslaughter pleaded not guilty to the offences.
The Magistrate; Mr. B.O Amore adjourned the case till 6th of May 2019.
