The police on Wednesday arraigned a truck driver, Noah Adeyeye, 30, for allegedly assaulting an officer of the Ogun State Traffic Road Compliance and Enforcement Agency(TRACE) while on duty.
Adeyeye, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of dangerous driving and assault before an Isabo Magistrates’ Court in Abeokuta.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Eigbejiale, told court that the accused committed the offence on April 15 at about 9:00 p.m. along Ayetoro road in Ogun.
Eigbejiale said the accused drove his truck in a dangerous manner while trying to overtake another vehicle and was stopped by a TRACE officer, named Aina Olusegun.
“The accused alighted from his car and beat-up the complainant, inflicting serious injury in his head.’’
Eigbejiale said the offence contravened Sections 249(9) and 356(2) of the Criminal Law of Ogun State, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs Adeola Adelaja, granted the accused bail in the sun of N500, 000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.
She said the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and that they should show evidence of tax payment to the Ogun Government.
Adelaja adjourned the case until April 30 for mention.
