A 22 year old truck driver, Friday Jude, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates Court for allegedly assaulting another truck driver over space on queue.
Jude is facing a one-count charge of assault.
The prosecutor, Inspector Donjor Perezi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on February 1, 2019 at about 2pm at Ibrahim Babagida Road, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos.
“The defendant unlawfully assaulted one Ekene Igwebuike with a wooden wedge which caused him a deep cut on his head,” Perezin said.
According to him, the offence is punishable under section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The Investigative Police Officer (IPO) told the court that the complainant was receiving treatment at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.
Magistrate O.A Erinle granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government and the document for the discharge of the complainant from the hospital.
The sureties must be blood relatives to the defendant.
She adjourned the case till March 6, 2019 for mention.
