A 47-year old truck driver; Bright Okechukwu was yesterday arraigned at an Apapa magistrates court for conspiring to steal a 40ft container at Tin Can Island. He container was on transfer to Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) Phase 11, without the knowledge of his employers.
The Prosecutor, Sergeant Balogun Adeniyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on the 14th of March 2019 at Phase 11, KLT, Kirikiri in Apapa magisterial district.
The Police Prosecutor; Balogu also said that the defendant diverted the sum of N40, 000 which was supposed to be for the company; Eagle Haulage Nigeria Limited into his personal use.
"You stole the sum of N40, 000 being proceeds for a job you did for the company's truck, Eagle Haulage Nigeria Limited by converting it into your personal use instead of remitting same to the company's account", he told the court.
He added that the offences are punishable under sections 168 and 287 of the criminal law of Lagos state 2015.
The defendant who is facing a two count charge on conspiracy and stealing denied committing the offences, and pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, A.O Erunke granted the defendant bail in the sum of N40, 000 with two registered sureties in like sum.
According to the Magistrate the sureties who must submit their full pictures will also furnish the court with evidence of tax payment and statement of account.
She added that the statement of account must be from six months backwards.
