Truckers under the aegis of the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) has faulted the ideas by some maritime stakeholders to introduce Ubber platform in the trucking sector.
The association which said this on Thursday in a chat with Shipping Position Daily at Tin-Can Island in Apapa, Lagos maintained that introduction of that platform will not bring an end to the menace of traffic gridlock on the axis.
Recalled that the Tin-Can Island chapter chairman of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA); Prince. Segun Oduntan, told our correspondent few weeks ago that the association is partnership with some group to introduce Ubber platform in the sector to address the issue of traffic.
But reaction to this, the deputy Vice chairman of NARTO, Alhaji Abdullahi Inuwa explained that it will be difficult to implement the platform in the sector because containerized cargoes have different consignments.
" I don’t think introducing Ubber to trucking Industry is the solution to the problems in the sector"
"So, if someone can come up to say that they want to introduce Ubber to the trucking industry maybe the person has made his research. So what we are praying is for it to work"
Inuwa however said that there are lots of people coming up with fake ideas that at the end of the day may not see the light of the day.
"You see in this maritime industry there are lots of people bringing in different ideas"
"Some years back, some group of person came out to say that they have over 2000 trucks that they want to use to support the truckers to change their rickety trucks. But at the end of the day, they made a lot of people register with some amount of money"
