The West Africa Road Transport Union (WARTU) has assured that it will review transport agreement between Nigeria and other member countries to enable Nigerian transporters participate in transportation of Nigeria cargo along the ECOWAS corridor.
This is even as the body yesterday inaugurated its Nigerian chapter executives that will pilot the affairs of the union for one year. The inauguration which saw 14 persons emerge through nominations of two members from each member-association as executives and ex-officio, took place at the Nigerian Shippers Council head office in Apapa Lagos.
President of the sub-regional transport group; Mr. Aloga Ogbogo said WARTU would monitor import and export of Nigeria goods along international corridor in accordance with bilateral agreement between each member states he urged the new executives to identify the sources of movement of cargoes from Nigeria to other member states and from other member countries to Nigeria.
He charged the members to harmonise the transport tariff from Nigeria to other parts of ECOWAS and Central Africa.

"For cargoes going to the land-lock countries like Mali Burkina Faso and Niger Republic from port to their destination, the land-lock countries have 2|3 and coastal countries have 1|3 of the cargoes, while coastal region is 50|50, he added.
The 14 nominees were selected from the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), Association of Luxurious Bus Owners of Nigeria (ALBON), Association of Maritime truck Owners (AMATO), National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
Others are; Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Dangote Group and the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF).
Ayandele Gideon Olaiwola of NARTO emerged the chairman of the Nigerian chapter while Chief Chidi Anyaegbu of ALBON became the Vice Chairman .
Chief Isdore Agoha of ANLCA emerged the Financial Secretary, Mr. Chiaka Nwaogu of AMATO was nominated as the Public Relations Officer while Alhaji Danzaki S. A clinched the post of Treasurer to complete the seven man executive.
The slots of the Secretary and Assistant Secretary were given to both Dangote Group and NAGAFF who were absent at the inauguration.
Other seven nominated members of the associations were made the Ex Officio members of the of the union.
