The Registrar of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN), Barrister Samuel Nwakohu has raised alarm about the state of the Council’s finances. He said the agency is heavily indebted.
Nwakohu who said this in a chat with Shipping Position Daily in Lagos last week, reiterated that the agency has been operating with meagre resources.
He disclosed that even the agency does not have the needed resources to settle most of its staff who have been transferred to different locations.
“We are heavily indebted; most of our staff, who were transferred to new locations, the rules of engagement states that you have to provide some money to settle them and most times we have not been able to do that and the staff have make some sacrifices and we are still waiting for the day, we will be able to sort some of those things out”, he stated.
The Registrar also said that the CRFFN is also burdened with protests over its being a government agency or not.
“The CRFFN is a young agency that is being saddled with so many protests over whether or not it is a government agency, we have been through that, we also have chains of litigations which we have managed to get some of them withdrawn; a number of them were withdrawn”, he added.
He nevertheless said that the overhead of the agency for a year is approximately N33.3million, adding that it is not always regular, he added that the structure of the agency is also a problem.
“Funding is a problem, especially overhead, I am beginning to sound like a broken record when I say my overhead for a year is approximately N33.3million. On a monthly basis, it is N2.7 and it is not regular to run an agency that has offices all over the country, these are the challenges, look at the structure and how the place is structured, it also poses a bit of a challenge. We have worked on quite a number of them and we have streamlined a number of issues and we are trying to work within the limit of our resources”, he explained.
