The Association of the Nigerian Licensed Custom Agents (ANLCA) has debunked insinuations that it has chickened out of the planned shutdown of activities in the ports by withdrawing their services.
Its national president; Prince Olayiwola Shittu gave this assurance while speaking on Shipping Position Live on Wednesday, where he however disclosed that there have been series of meetings with concerned stakeholders in the sector.
This is coming on the heels of the meeting ANLCA and its sister association; the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) had with the Nigerian Shippers Council last Thursday in Lagos.
In an exclusive chat with the national President of ANLCA said that though ANLCA in collaboration with NAGAFF held a meeting with the Shippers Council, the strike might still go on.
He said: “Yes it was a dialogue and discussion to know what they have put in place. We have also set up a technical committee to also look into the positive things that have happened after the visit of the CG of Customs, interventions by NPA management, discussions going on with the Shippers Council and some other high profile interventions”.
Confirming that the two associations met on Tuesday over the same issue, he said: “That was why we had to meet yesterday. This is an industry that relies so much on rumour and stories. We have a purpose for giving government the ultimatum”.
“We have a lot of work to add to what we have gotten so far. I don’t want to rely on this rumour or speculations. After the 21 days you will know how serious we are. We have not given up, we have a lot of issues, and some are being scratched on the surface while others are being taken seriously”, he told our correspondent.
