They were intercepted at eight different locations including Idiroko, Badagary and Kebbi water ways.
Speaking at the event which also marked his maiden press briefing, Controller Kebbi said that it is the desire of the command to ensure that the water ways are safe from nefarious business men and women endangering the security of the country. He vowed to ensure that smuggling is reduced to the barest minimum.
He also said that in realizing the enormity of the task ahead, visits were made to various
stations within the command in order to familiarize and gather intelligence necessary for effective administration.
Comptroller Sarkin said that he had informed his officers that there will be no room for
Indiscipline even as he maintained that the Comptroller General of Customs, Col. Hammed Ali, is working very hard to reposition the service for better delivery.
He also urged all officers to join hands with him to move the service and the nation forward.
In his words he said, "Discipline should be the watch -word for the officers as this will help
in achieving our set goals. Therefore no act of indiscipline shall be condoned. The Western Marine Command is an enforcement area and its main function is to protect the water ways, fight insecurity and combat smuggling.
“We have been able to make unprecedented seizures within 30 days in office from various units comprising southwestern states and right up to Kebbi state in the Northern part of the country at different dates and time. This was born out of the new spirit to duty in the command by the officers and men. It is important to note that the last seizure made in Kebbi axis was over 5years ago" he said
