A Niger Delta activist; Chief Rita Lori-Ogbebor last week urged the Federal Government to make the establishment of the Nigerian Maritime University, Okerenkoko in Delta a priority.
Lori-Ogbebor gave the advice in an interview with newsmen in Lagos.
She said that when established, the university would boost fishing in the region.
She added: “I am not saying that like any part of this country that some money given, had been abused for the development of Niger Delta.
“There is no money given to the Niger Delta that is going to be sufficient for us not to have other developments in that area.
“Tell me, what are the developments in the Niger Delta today?
“Absolutely nothing. Everything is in other parts of the country, yet we have given so much for the development of this country. So, there is no excuse.
“I am hoping to hear, listen to better reasons why the development of that institution (maritime university) should not be given priority.
“We have nothing. What have they given to us?
“No infrastructure. Maybe, they do not understand the huge potentials that that place is going to afford us.
“It goes as from there to fishing. That is something that is going to boost that area and I am
sure it would be given priority.“
