The Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has appealed to the management of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) for training of its members on the provisions and requirements of the International Ships and Ports Facility (ISPS) Code implementation at the ports.
ANLCA President; Prince Olayiwola Shittu made the appeal recently during a meeting at the association’s secretariat in Festac, Lagos.
He said that an official letter to this effect has been sent to the NPA management.
He noted that the association has just completed its western zone chapter’s elections and that it was planning to hold leadership training for the newly-elected officials of the chapters in order for them to know what is expected of them.
The ANLCA President also disclosed that between May 17th to May 21st 2016 the executives of the association will be going to Shanghai to attend the bi-annual conference of the International Federation of Customs Brokers (IFCBA).
He said that the essence of the conference is to further empower ANLCA members and to further bring them up to date with international best practices. Shittu appealed to the NPA to ensure that members of ANLCA are sponsored to attend this training programme.
“In May 17th to 21st we would be in Shanghai for the Bi-Annual conference of the International Federation of Customs Brokers. What we would be doing is empowering our people to meet up international best practices, and it is only ANLCA that does that in the whole maritime industry”
“I know that the labour union too do go on training and it is sponsored by NPA, I am aware because I was a labour man in those days. We want to be part of that training to benefit from your portfolio of training others”
“It is when you train us that our behaviours in the port will complement your activities. Even though it is not in the 2016 budget, it should be in the supplementary budget”
On the ISPS Code training for its chapter executives, the ANLCA President maintained that “we just concluded elections into the Western Zone of our chapters, and we are preparing for a training session for them on Leadership Role and what is expected of them”
“We want somebody from NPA that will come and speak on this ISPS Code and its implication on our business.”
