The National President of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) Prince Olayiwola Shittu has said that international lectures and workshops which his executives had been attending abroad have had positive effects on all ANLCA members.
Shittu in a chat with Shipping Position Daily in Lagos said that the knowledge and training received from these travels are usually transferred to the chapter levels in order for members to know what is obtainable worldwide.
Between year 2010 and 2016, he noted that the attitude of clearing agents at the port has changed and that this has affected customs revenue positively.
According to him, "from April 10, 2010 to 2016 the activities of agents have changed, there has been a marked improvement in the conduct, the appearance and discussion, compliance level of agents, and there has been an increase in revenue generation"
"The revenue of the customs has shot up compared to 2010"
"As soon as we come back from any journey we usually call for an emergency NEC meeting, all the studies we have had over there will be sent to us online and we send it to mail box of all our members"
"We discuss the highpoint at NEC level where the chapter executives and members are to take it to the chapter and give their members" Shittu stated
The ANLCA President also argued that 80% of those who are seen roaming around the port are not ANLCA members.
"Some of them are there in the name of freight forwarders, they have nothing to do with licensed customs agents" he said.
