The Nigeria Customs Service, Tin Can Island Command has said that it has since commenced training of maritime stakeholders on its Nigeria Customs Integrated System (NICIS) 2 and that it has so far trained 1, 200 people.
While handing over the reins of the command to his successor; Compt Baba Musa at a ceremony at the command last week, Compt Bashar Yusuf said that the only group yet to benefit from the customs training are the 'touts'.
The command has equally called on clearing and forwarding agents to take advantage of the customs facility at Tin Can port command to know more about the NICIS operations.
Speaking, Bashar said "We have an ICT section, we do a lot of training there all the time, we have so far trained 1,200 people, that place is for all of us, we train customs, importers, agents and all maritime stakeholders, the only people we are yet to train are the touts because they do not have the background for education".
The Customs boss has also urged members of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) to embrace the Nigerian Customs Integrated System (NICIS 2) in order to make their operations seamless in the year.
Bashir appreciated ANLCA members for assisting the command to collect N287billion in 2017. He also said that customs has started the implementation of NCIS 2 at experimental level at Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) and urged stakeholders to come forward to be trained for free at Tin Can command for two weeks.
While addressing the agents recently at the new year party organised by the Tin Can chapter of ANLCA, the Customs boss had said: "One thing that would help us achieve our target this year is that we have started the implementation of NCIS 2 at experimental level at KLT, some of you have been trained, please we are begging you to take the advantages for NICIS 2, come and be trained, it is free. If you get trained for NICIS 2, you would find your work seamless, it is just two weeks training inside our office here at Tin Can port, so you are not going to stay away from your job".
