The African Centre for Supply Chain (ACSC) and the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) has mapped out partnership roles to facilitate trade in the maritime sector.
Dr Obiora Madu, Director-General of the centre led ACSC team on a courtesy visit to the CRFFN in Lagos.
Madu said that the visit was necessary to let the council know about some of the programmes of the centre that could aid trade in Nigeria.
ACSC is into industry research and consultancy with special interest in the maritime sector.
The ACSC was launched in 2011 with the aim of building a strong continental advocacy platform for logistics and supply chain with focus on Africa.
It is a research-based organisation aiming to build knowledge and proffer solutions within its core competence and allied areas of influence.
Madu said that they were in the council to intimate the management of the CRFFN on its industry report for 2019; a collection of findings and empirical works that would aid the council in its operations.
“As one of the regulatory bodies, the council is in a better position to drive change in the sector and such a change is what brings us here.
“The industry report which will be inaugurated in Abuja by May is trade facilitation-driven if well administered and will curb most of the problems we are facing in the maritime sector and bolster the economy,’’ he said.
Mr Samuel Nwakohu, Registrar of the CRFFN, said that the visit was the first of its kind to the council.
According to him, the council will work with professional bodies like ACSC to streamline operations in the sector in order to get utmost results in the industry.
The registrar said that the re-orientation of freight forwarders and port users to key into the idea of trade facilitation would be the core of the council’s awareness drive.
“We are going to be looking at the available facilities vis a vis the policies and facilitation instruments with a view to marrying them to achieve industry growth and stability.
“Many of our port users do not know what they stand to get when the issue of trade facilitation is being mentioned. All those will be explained for them to key into the system,’’ Nwakohu said.
