A total of 400 new intakes were recently matriculated by Global Maritime Academy of Nigeria recently with a charge to shun cultism and all forms of anti-social behaviour that are inconsistent with the pursuit of academic excellence.
The Rector of the academy, Mr Isaac A. Aikoroje, who gave the charge at the matriculation ceremony, warned that the institution will graduate only matriculated students that were eventually “found worthy in character and learning”.
Aikoroje was delivering an address during the 7th matriculation/convocation ceremony of the academy held at its main campus 1, Ogoni-Olomu in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The rector noted that the world and the Nigerian society in particular was today in need of young men and women who would inspire new confidence with their quality education and positive attitude to learning and work, saying the students must strive to bring about the desired positive change in the system.
He said the journey towards engendering a better society must begin with their serious approach to learning and character moulding.
“Remember that the Academy will only graduate you if you are found worthy in character and learning”, he said, adding that the academy was duty-bound to achieve its “expectation to transform the students from their present state within the next two years of the National Diploma programme in various disciplines of the institution.”
