Unhappy with the poor state of logistics and transportation in Nigeria, Multimix Academy, has partnered with Malaysian University of Science and Technology (MUST) to train students on courses on supply chain management.
Speaking during the unveiling of MBA Supply Chain Management in Lagos recently, the Chief Executive Officer of, Multimix Academy; Dr Obiora Madu, said that is organisation has been longing for a programme like this, even as he said that Multimix Academy has approached many universities in Nigeria through letters for this programme, but to no avail.
"We felt the need for a programme like this long time ago but at God's own time it happened. We have spoken to universities through letters", he said.
He maintained that the best way to destroy a country is by destroying its transportation system.
"Someone said that if you want to destroy a country, you don't need guns and bombs, all you need to do is to destroy her transportation system. Because we are operating with 1950s curriculum in this day and age, how do we cope? If you happen to interview fresh graduates you will understand what I am saying. We will do our bit, the little we can to help and then we leave the rest to God. But the problem is, can we do our best"
Dr. Madu also said that the programme will revolutionize the industry as supply chain is needed at the higher level.
"So I am very happy I wouldn't say that meeting MUST was an accident, I will say that it was a miracle rather, because the time has come. Even there coming in was almost disrupted at the last minute. But God took control and we are here. This programme will revolutionize the industry because we need supply chain at its higher level", he affirmed.
According to him, the 14 months programme is flexible enough to accommodate anybody anytime.
He also said that the academy will fulfill all the promises made to the students.
"All the promises we have made to the students will be fulfilled. My belief has always been that any certificate that does not inspire confidence is not worth to be called a piece of paper. I am not interested in whether you fail, what I am interested in is what you will take away. The programme is for 14months and it’s very flexible. It won't affect your work. The programme has 10 modules. For the fact that it is in modular form, anybody can join it any time. The only things is that by the time we conclude the last module, you return to take care of the ones you missed", he concluded.
Also speaking at the event, the Managing Director of MDS Logistics; Solomon Aigbavboa described the occasion as epoch-making.
He also said that the good thing about supply chain is that there are many opportunities and few degree awarding schools in the world.
"Supply Chain Management (SCM) graduates are more likely to stand out compared with applicants who don't have a supply chain degree when there are openings in the industries in the areas of logistics & supply chains. This program I would say is coming at the right time"
He also maintained that supply chain management and its study in Nigeria have continued to evolve and change radically in the last decade.
"Supply chain management has grown in importance, leading to the dynamic development in the quality of supply chain managers and executives in responsibility and scope that the job in supply chain entails"
Also speaking, the Vice President of MUST, Mr. Sellappan Palaniappan assured that the programme will be very interesting for Nigerians as supply chain is high in demand.
"The programme will make a difference from other programmes as automation is good for digitalization" he said.
