Newly-elected Chairman of PTML chapter of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA);Mr Samuel Oluwole Obey has assured that training of members of the chapter will soon begin.
Obey who was speaking during a brief inauguration ceremony held at the chapter last week, assured members that part of his manifesto during his campaign and which he is going to tackle first, is to conduct training and retraining of ANLCA members to bring them up to date with international best practices.
He also assured that the association under his watch will strive towards procuring a befitting secretariat for clearing agents at PTML. It would be recalled that the agents had been displaced three years ago by the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) at the commencement and compliance implementation of the International Ships and Ports Facility Security (ISPS) Code.
Speaking, the PTML Chairman said, “As far as I am concerned, when there is change in Nigeria, there must be change in PTML, and part of my manifesto which I want to bring in here is that professionally I am going to train some people here; also, part of our promise is to get a beautiful secretariat for our administration to run.
“I will talk with the customs and educate my people on the outcome of our meeting with the customs from there we will begin to identify them.
“Part of the changes I will bring here is training and to get a befitting secretariat. During my time, the secretariat and training is my first assignment and I promise to fulfil. With the problem at the port, we would have to change many things”.
He promised that his new executives will meet with the Customs Area Controller in charge of PTML, Mrs Ronke Olubiyi, as well as the port concessionaire; PTML Terminals on how cargo can be stemmed to the command for his members to be able to have jobs.
“I am assuring you that when I have my meeting with the customs and Grimaldi Shipping and my executives, I know they will bring cargo to PTML” he said.
