The National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders {NAGAFF} has called on Nigerian students to embrace freight forwarding profession, even as it stressed the need for undergraduates to pick a career in freight forwarding practice.
The association also solicited with the National Association of Nigerian Students {NANS} to partner with it in ensuring that Nigeria Customs Service stops the issuance of practicing licenses to Corporate bodies and ensure it is issued to individuals.
Founder of NAGAFF Dr. Boniface Aniebonam made the plea last week when students under the aegis of National Association of Nigerian Students {NANS}, honored the president of NAGAFF , Chief Eugene Nweke with a national outstanding leadership award in Lagos.
The NAGAFF founder called on the leadership of NANS to collaborate with NAGAFF in the struggle to get the Customs to allow licensing of individuals without compulsorily making it corporate.
Aniebonam enlightened the students, saying that individual licensing would open up employment opportunities to fresh Nigerian youths who are graduates and languishing without jobs.
He said NAGAFF and NANS can seek the amendment of the Customs Act that limits licensing of customs brokers or freight forwarders to corporate bodies.
Speaking earlier President of NAGAFF Chief Eugene Nweke urged the students to pick up a career in freight forwarding practice even when they undergraduate.
He said that the NAGAFF headquarters has classroomss for Redeemers University, where freight forwarding courses are taught under the supervision of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria {CRFFN}.
He added that training of Nigerian students in freight forwarding practice by NAGAFF executives is a way of giving back to the society, urging the students to be determine and committed to such specialized training programme
On his part, representative of NANS, Comrade Segun Okeowo Kayode assured the high powered members of NAGAFF that the national executive of the association will meet and deliberate on the theory of the association as regards freight forwarding practice.
The unionist also added that there is need to advice Nigerian students who are graduates about the benefit of freight forwarding and customs brokerage practice in Nigeria.
Segun also urged graduates without jobs to embrace freight forwarding practice as a means to become self-reliance adding that there are enormous benefits attached to the profession.
“I think the job is there in the freight forwarding practice but it seems people are not aware about it as such’’
‘’But like i said earlier it will be a national discourse for us at the national level.
He also told the media that the topic will be raised this week at the meeting of NANS executives
