President, Ijaw Youth Council, (IYC); Mr Roland Oweilaemi Pereotubo, has lauded President Muhammadu Buhari for N2Billion initial grant made available to kick start academic session in the Maritime University at Okerenkoko in Delta.
Pereotubo told newsmen that “the news about the school’s take-off money alone has gone a long way in dousing the apprehension of the people.”
According to the IYC, “the commencement of operation at the Maritime University is one of the conditions for peace in the region.
“Government, therefore, should not relent in its efforts to commence academic session as promised. The promised take off funds should not also end up in a talk-show. Let the Government march its words with action.”
The youth organisation commended President Muhammadu Buhari “for heeding to the voice of reason” adding that the commencement of academic session in the institution will herald the much needed peaceful atmosphere in the region for business to thrive.
“It will also serve as a gateway for the people to confidently engage the government in constructive dialogue.”
The youth organisation appealed to the youths to keep maintaining the existing peace in the region, “while the stakeholders tackle the government on our collective demands.
“No meaningful development can take place in a volatile atmosphere. We owe ourselves a duty to be law-abiding for the government to prove its sincerity to the people.”
