NIMASA Doles Out N1.7 Million Educational Grant To Winners Of World Maritime Day Essay Completion     

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) have doles out over N1.7 million as educational grant to 10 tertiary institution students who emerged winners of the World Maritime Day essay competition.

Speaking during the presentation of cheque to the 10 lucky winners, the Director of Special Duties NIMASA, Hajia Lami Tumaka said the agency organized the essay competition with the topic “Empowering Women in the Maritime Industry” in Line with the theme for the 2019 celebration of the World Maritime Day and to create awareness of the tremendous potential and opportunities in the Maritime Sector in Nigeria and indeed Worldwide.

According to her, more than 57 tertiary institutions participated in the competition, with over 300 entries, but some were cancelled due to plagiarism and lack of originality.

 The first position winner Inioluwa Joshua, a student of University of Ibadan went home with N500,000 education grant plus a Laptop and a plaque, he was also given scholarship by the former President of the Ships Owners Association of Nigeria (SOAN) and CEO Starz Maritime; Engr. Greg Ogbeifun.

The second position winner; Asema Omataye a University of Benin student, went home with N350, 000 educations grant plus a Laptop and a plaque as well as a full scholarship that was given to her by the Minister of State for Transportation, Mrs. Gbemisola Saraki.

The third position winner was given N250, 000 education grant plus a laptop and a plaque; she was also given scholarship by the CEO Ocean Deep limited, Mrs. Rollens Macfoy.

Other winners include: Ojewale Tolulope, Oladimeji Afeez, Solomon Peace, Akinlabi Enoch, Uwara Blessing, and Akinriade Deborah. Each went home with consolation awards of: N100,000 Education Grant and a plaque.
