A principal officer of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA),Dr. Sunny Oby Maduka has called on Nigerians to read one book a day for national and personal growth, saying that readership in Nigeria is very low.
The NPA staff made the plea at a parley with newsmen in Lagos recently.
Maduka, a writer and publisher said that low rate in book readership in Nigeria is bane to societal growth, stressing the need for people to re orientate themselves by reading.
Dr. Maduka, the first staff in the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA)to have a PhD holder noted that the system is yet to encourage him to write books about the maritime industry.
The writer stated that the maritime sector cannot move forward except government appoints individuals who have vast knowledge about the sector.
He said creativity brings about development pointing out that researches conducted from books will bring about ingenuity.
The writer said that an average Nigerian is still winking in the dark because of failure to read.
“Book publishing in Nigeria is hectic because people in Nigeria don't read; the readership ability is too low in the country.”
The book publisher who has written books like: Tears for Love, Collection of Illuminatory Poems Volume, The Surviving Twins, The Whispering Voice and My Nation My Agony has also unveiled his latest work title "A Mother Her Heart.
