The seminar was on the role of Social and Mass Media in Organizational Development, and was organized for Staff of the Public Affairs Department in collaboration with SYNOVIA Limited.
The rector, who was represented by his Special Assistant, Dr John Adeyanju stressed that participants must take advantage of the opportunity to learn from the resource persons.
“I am determined to reposition the nation’s premier maritime training institution, MAN, for global competitiveness in line with international best practices.
“This training for the public affairs department is a step in the right direction.
“The importance of the social media in the overall performance of the Public Affairs Department cannot be over emphasized as it is gradually taking over traditional media of communication.
“I encourage all participants to optimize the use of mass and social media in informing stakeholders on the true position of affairs in the Academy”, he said.
Earlier, the Head of Public Affairs, Mr Peter Netson, thanked the rector for the kind gesture and his interest in building capacity of staff of the department.
Netson said that the department was now better equipped to support the management’s effort at developing the academy.
He, however, said the department would work on areas that needed improvement to ensure an improved positive reputation for the academy.
He also charged participants to put the knowledge gained during the seminar to practice, especially at a time the academy was working hard towards gaining more relevance at the global scene.
