Stars Maritime Academy said that it has opened late admission window for new cadets who could not beat the January deadline.
Head of Shipping Management Department of the academy, Mr. Chris Sadoh in a chat with Shipping Position Daily last week confirmed that the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has sent some cadets to the school for admission.
Apart from JAMB, he said that Stars Maritime Academy also gets new cadets by sourcing internally. He told correspondent that the first Passing Out Parade of the school is slated for sometimes in June 2018.
According to him, "Under normal circumstances, admission closes by end of January. We get students from JAMB as well as from internal sourcing, for the internal sourcing, their document would he prepared and sent to JAMB"
"We just reopened last week of January, classes have started as usual but late admission is still on, this is in order for us to have more students because school business is all about numbers and population"
"By June 2018, we shall be having our Passing Out Parade, dignitaries would be invited to see how we have fared for the past two years , it's a two years programme we are running here, every six months, there is always a POP"
He said the academy runs courses in Marine Engineering, Nautical science and shipping management courses.
Sadoh also confirmed that many cadets who passed out from the academy are now well-positioned in shipping companies, while some are excelling abroad.
