Lagosians have started showering praises on Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for the way he has reinvigorated and repositioned the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA) which has led to the agency’s prompt response to emergencies within the state.
The commendations came on the heels of a fire outbreak at the popular Fatgbems Filling Station in Mile 2 area of Lagos last week. The petroleum tanker had exploded while loading inside the fuel station.
Shipping Position Daily correspondent who was at the scene of the fire reported that about three fire fighting trucks were deployed by the LASEMA with an ambulance and the fire was put off successfully.
Our correspondent reports that the fire started from the kerosene section of the popular Fatgbems Filling station at the Mile 2 Axis of Amuwo Odofin at about 7pm on 23rd February 2017. However flames were already raging when the Lagos State fire team arrived.
Due to the LASEMA efforts, there was no casualty from the fire and the fire equally did not affect the Jakande Estate buildings that were clustered very close to the station. The filling station is located behind Jakande estate and residential units were at risk of being destroyed if the fire had not been contained.
However, speaking on a popular social media trend monitored by Shipping Position Daily, commendations were poured on the Lagos State Governor.
A social media troll, Mr. Charles osuji said “Witnessed it. I am a diehard PDP fan, but I look at what governor Ambode is doing in Lagos with LASEMA and all the modern equipment he bought for emergency and I am impressed and will vote Ambode again. They (LASEMA) came to the filling station and quenched the fire”
Another troll, Elizabeth Ngurukwem commented that “The incidence happened just a stone-throw to my house, I myself was marveled with the way the Lagos State fire service responded to the call, they came very fast, fully prepared even with a first Aid ambulance, thumbs up to Lagos state”
