Comrade Usman Adamu Song, General Secretary of Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has resigned from the position.
Song came in as Secretary General of the union since April 2018. In a statement obtained by Shipping Position Daily last week, he voluntarily resigned and handed over office to Comrade Afolabi Olawale Olufemi after attaining the mandatory retirement age.
The official change of baton in the Union’s National Executive leadership took place on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at NUPENG’s National Secretariat in Jibowu, Lagos.
Comrade Afolabi before this recent milestone was the Union’s Deputy General Secretary in charge of operations.
Those who witnessed the landmark ceremony were the incumbent President of the Union, Comrade (Prince) Williams Akporeha, Comrade Otite Precious Onohwohwo (Principal Assistant General Secretary in charge of Administration), Comrade Anthony Chukwu (Principal Assistant General Secretary in charge of Accounts/Finance), Comrade Adamson Momoh (Principal Assistant General Secretary in charge of Research and Public Affairs), Comrade Lawrence Alabala (Principal Organizing Secretary in charge of Education and Training) and Comrade Oluchi Amaogu (Principal Organizing Secretary-Gender Desk).
