Investigation by Shipping Position Daily has revealed that owners of tank farms also known as Oil Depots around the Apapa, Tin Can axis of Lagos may lose billions of naira if the House of Representatives decide to go by the words of the Customs Area Comptroller of Apapa, Controller Abba Kura.
Speaking during a visit of the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee investigating the non-functionality of eastern Ports and the decongestion of Lagos Port, the Customs boss attributed the vehicular gridlock at the Lagos seaports to infrastructural problems and the numbers of tanks farms in the axis.
Kura said due to the number of tank farms at the Apapa port area the traffic gridlock was inevitable, he was however optimistic that if the tank farms around the Apapa and Tin Can axis are relocated, this will help solve the problem of traffic gridlock in the area, he therefore urged the law makers led by Hon. Buba Yussuf to consider the call for the relocations of the tank farms.
In his response the Chairman of the committee Hon Buba Yussuf said the house will look at the issue and if there is need for the relocation.
Also, a resident of Apapa; Matthew Azubike told our correspondent that the Apapa residents have been subjected to untold hardship by operators of the tank farms. He said tankers that call at these tank farms constitute a slur in human activity as they subject residents to unpleasant state of nature; he therefore supported the call for the relocation of the tank farms as moved by the CAC.
