Capt Tajudeen Alao (President, Master Mariners Association)
Shittu has set a standard in ANLCA that it would be difficult for anybody to match, he has placed ANLCA on a proper footing. Before his time, the people were just called hustlers, but in his time, he established ANLCA in Nigeria and also took them outside Nigeria, today the clearing agents, customs brokers and freight forwarders in Nigeria are a member of Chinese European, Asian association of custom brokers, he has taken them as far as East Africa and South Africa, this has never happened before, he has given ANLCA a befitting secretariat, they were renting places before. So, at his own expense and self sacrifice, he has put ANLCA in the public glare.
Charles Ubah (ANLCA Member, Tin Can Port)
Shittu is the best president that ANLCA has ever produced, I stand to be controverted, he is the man that changed the face of ANLCA and took the association to a greater height including FIATA, WCO, WTO, ANLCA has gone to more than ten countries of the world, these are grade ‘A’ countries for seminars. Shittu brought back respect into our organization from being in a rented apartment for several years from 1954 to 2011, as a visionary leader that he was, turned round the fortune of ANLCA, today the association is having the best secretariat of any trade association. I am very proud to call myself an ANLCA member, those of us coming behind have learnt a lot from him and we would continue to learn.
Dr. Zebulon Ikhokide (President, NIFFCB)
Olayiwola Shittu is an enigma in the shipping industry, especially in freight forwarding; the area he branched into, I can assess him as somebody who has brought in real glamour into the freight forwarding business, for me I look at him as somebody who has made his mark, he has put down something in writing (book) which I urge people to go through and be able to live the way he did because he has made his mark, what he has done is something I encourage people to follow. He was also part of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria when it came up, he is a member and fellow of my institute; Nigerian Institute of Freight Forwarders and Customs Brokers which I head as the National President.
Wale Odu (Chief Executive, Talod Oceanair Services)
Olayiwola Shittu eight years in ANLCA has performed wonderfully well, we don’t need to flog the issue, the shoes are there for someone else to come and fit into, he has made ANLCA to be what an association should be, before him; the association was not run effectively, since 1954, they did not have a secretariat of their own, he made it possible and today the association has its own secretariat, administratively and in all ways, he has performed well, the problem he had was the people that surrounded him.
Increase Uche (NAGAFF President)
Olayiwola Shittu has contributed immensely to the development of the freight forwarding industry, he is a bridge builder, he is a type of person that always want to impact on the life of human beings, you would discover that through the eight years of his tenure in ANLCA, he was able to take the association to an enviable height even up to the IFCBA, though the brokerage aspect of our business in Nigeria here is yet to get to that level, because there is no law establishing that class in our business, we only have customs license agents here which is different from brokers. I know that his intention is to promote the industry and bring about development, though he was not finding it easy with his people within that period. Again, he tried to build bridge by synergizing with NAGAFF; this would have solved a lot of problems if his people allowed him to promote it to a certain level.
Taiwo Mustapha (Chairman BOT, ANLCA)
Olayiwola Shittu’s eight years in office is the best thing that has happened in the history of ANLCA, it was the peak of our enviable position in the history of clearing and forwarding business in Nigeria, we were able to achieve a lot in his eight years tenure, especially the first four years when he came into office, there is that unity of purpose, he carried everybody along, he had the energy and he was so sure of what he wanted, the blueprint was there and he was quickly following it, he had a seven point agenda when he was doing his campaign in the first tenure and he was following it, by the time he exhausted his eight years on his second tenure he had already finished the seven point agenda.
Haruna Omolajomo (GM, Duncan Bonded Terminal)
Olayiwola Shittu's tenure as the president of ANLCA was very excellent and wonderful; he was able to move the association to the next level. He did a very fantastic job for the association and I just pray that his successor will be able to wear the shoes of the former president and do better than him. He was an excellent worker and he was a very wonderful president to the association.
Rev Jonathan Nicol (President, SALS)
I think he tried his best as a president of an association not as a person, as a president, he held the association together and built a secretariat for them. His actions got results for ANLCA and the association is one of those we are proud of as far as SALS is concerned.
Mr. Ugochukwu Nnadi (NAGAFF Chieftain)
In fact, Shittu is the best national president that ANLCA has ever had, all other presidents that the association had in the past were confrontational. He tried to open up the association and let them know and do what others are doing.
