The Management of Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN) in Oron, Akwa Ibom, said it had proposed N900 million for the training of 250 students on seafaring abroad.
The Rector of the Institute, Mr Joshua Okpo, disclosed this in a statement in Lagos last week.
He said that the training would enable the students to gain sea time experience outside the country.
Okpo said that the training was fallout of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Federal Ministry of Transport and the Turkish Government.

Okpo said that the training was fallout of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Federal Ministry of Transport and the Turkish Government.
He said that the MoU would enable the students to attend one-year on-board sea training outside Nigeria.
Okpo said that 150 students would be from the Nautical Science Department, while 100 would come from the Marine Engineering Department.
He said that the training would help to prepare the students for actual marine engineering as they would be going round various countries of the world.
Okpo said that they would be moving in a ship that had been prepared for them for a period of one year before arriving onshore.
The rector said it was regrettable that some students, who were expelled from other universities due to certain social vices, had found their way into the institute.
He said that attempt by such students to exert certain negative influences on others would not be tolerated.
The rector said that his administration had taken steps to sanitise the institution by sacking some lecturers alleged to be involved in certificate racketeering.
