The Comptroller -General of the Nigeria Customs Service, retired Col. Hameed Ali, has warned officers and men who are not ready for the current wind of change to leave the service.
Ali gave the warning while addressing officers and men of the service in Kano on Wednesday.
“The present administration has also made a commitment that it has zero tolerance for corruption, so you either change or you leave the service.
“If you want to survive in this service you must change, as anybody caught violating the rules and regulations governing the service
will be shown the way out,“ he said.
He said the advice became necessary because the present administration would not condone any act of indiscipline.
Ali warned that the era of ‘favouritism and god fatherism’ was over in the service.
He said henceforth no officer would spend more than three years on a particular posting as the era of spending 10 years or more on a particular posting had gone.
Ali said that henceforth promotion would be based on performance and passing examination.
He added that the service would soon review all promotions as any one done without following due process would be reversed.
“It is only in this service that recruitment is done without due process. The service cannot survive on this anomaly, `he added.
