The Department of Weight and Measures, Ministry of Trade and Investment, has advised petroleum marketers to desist from sharp practices.
The department also urged marketers to render quality services to their customers.
A Deputy Superintendent in Lagos Zonal Office of the department, Mrs. Crescentia Erukpeme, gave the advice on Tuesday, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria. She particularly advised operators of filling stations to adhere strictly to the ministry’s standards.

The Department of Weight and Measures, Ministry of Trade and Investment, has advised petroleum marketers to desist from sharp practices.

Erukpeme expressed dissatisfaction with the attitude of some operators who under-dispensed and sold adulterated diesel. She said that some filling stations were under-dispensing their products, while others had adjusted their pumps to cheat their customers.
According to her, the department is deeply concerned about the adulteration of petroleum products in the country.
Erukpeme said that President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration was interested in the welfare of Nigerians and was determined to take critical steps to ensure long-term steady growth of the economy.
She also called on the stakeholders to ensure that their activities and businesses conformed with the acceptable measurement standards.
“Stakeholders should ensure that the consumers get value for their money for our country to be better,” she said.
The deputy superintendent said that the department would soon commence testing of the petroleum products to identify, arrest and punish dealers of adulterated products across the country.
“The energy sector is the key to Nigeria’s economic survival. The real sector, which drives the nation’s quest for reduced unemployment and other socio-economic challenges, depend on the energy sector for power to produce.
“That is why we are going to collaborate with other relevant agencies and confront the menace firmly. There will be seizures, arrests and prosecutions,” she said.
