The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has accused the Association of Registered Freight Forwarders of Nigeria (AREFFN) of allegedly receiving N500,000 bribe from terminal operator; Tin Can Island Container Terminal (TICT)
Vice Chairman of the chapter; Barrister Ada Akpunonu took a swipe at the President of AREFFN, Dr. Frank Ukor for allegedly encouraging TICT to continue the collection of illegal charges, especially on public holidays and weekends.
The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has accused the Association of Registered Freight Forwarders of Nigeria (AREFFN) of allegedly receiving N500,000 bribe from terminal operator; Tin Can Island Container Terminal (TICT)
Vice Chairman of the chapter; Barrister Ada Akpunonu took a swipe at the President of AREFFN, Dr. Frank Ukor for allegedly encouraging TICT to continue the collection of illegal charges, especially on public holidays and weekends.
Akpunonu said that AREFFN does not have rights to make any statement on behalf of clearing agents at Tin Can because the association does not have any presence at the port.
"We don't know what they call AREFFN at Tin Can, I cannot even see any of their members or office, how can they now come and say we don't have any problem with TICT"
"Where is the membership, where is the secretariat? Severally I have made efforts to locate them at Tin Can, so as far as I am concerned, they do not exist here and should not speak for Tin Can agents"
"AREFFN is writing rubbish to say that TICT should continue to collect illegal money and oppress freight forwarders just because they have given them N500,000, this is an insult to the entire stakeholders" Barrister Akpunonu lamented.
Also taking a swipe at the President of the AREFFN, Secretary of the ANLCA at Tin Can, Mr. Davids Chucks Kanikwu described Dr. Frank Ukor as a man who has failed in ANLCA and decided to establish an association for himself.
Speaking, Kanikwu said "Ukor was once a member of ANLCA who failed election as a Secretary in Seme, as he failed elections, he ran away and waited until this opportunity came, he carried his family and registered AREFFN"
"In this port today, have you seen any stand for AREFFN, NAFFAC? Even the NAGAFF office that we have is a canteen" he said.
Also speaking at a stakeholders meeting organized by the Tin Can Island Chapter of ANLCA in Lagos last week, Chairman of the Chapter, Prince Kayode Oyinlola accused the four freight forwarding associations of haven been compromised by TICT.
