The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) yesterday went to the polls to elect executives into five of its chapter within the Western Zone.
The Western Zone election which took place amidst tight security in Festac Town Lagos was described as the most transparent and peaceful in the history of the association.
The chapters that participated in the poles includes; Apapa chapter, PTML, KLT, Muritala Muhammed Airport chapter and Seme border chapter.
There was however a mild interruption during the voting process as a result of the disqualification of one of the chairmanship candidates at PTML Chapter, Alhaji Lameed Aliyu, who lamented that he was disqualified at the last minute. But this was quickly addressed by the Association’s Electoral Committee (ASECO)
Speaking with journalists at the end of the process, Chairman of ASECO, Alhaji Babatunde Mukaila described the election as peaceful, compared to past elections of the association.
Addressing the case of the PTML chairmanship candidate, Mukaila said that going by the ASECO election guidelines, for anyone to aspire for chairmanship position, he must be a director of a corporate company for five years and he must have not less than 10% stake in such a company. He said that Lameen failed to meet these criteria.
“If you have been part of our electoral processes, you will agree with me that up till the culmination of the election today, there is no fighting in town, no rancor and there is no rowdiness, we achieved this because we are very transparent”

He added that everything was done according to book.
At the end of the process, Mr. Alloy Nze Igwe was elected un-opposed as Chairman of the Airport chapter, he claimed 106 out of the 116 total votes. Bamgbala Adewusi as Vice Chairman with 86 votes, Oladele Saheed emerged financial secretary with 79 votes, Secretary is Sylvester Iyamu with 100 votes, Abdulazeez Afolabi emerged Treasurer with 111 votes, Basil Agbara emerged Publicity Secretary with 101 votes and Ogunwande Sunday won the position of Assistant Secretary with 92 votes.
At the Seme Border command, Alhaji Bisiriyu Lasisi Fanu emerged chairman clinching 41 out of a total of 74 votes, Kabiru Abdullahi emerged vice with 32 votes, Okunola Akeem Taiwo elected financial secretary with 47 votes, Abioye Wasiu got 41 votes to emerge Treasurer.
Elder Samuel Oluwole Obey defeated Otunba Sunday Oyebola with 65 to 2 votes to emerge as Chairman of PTML chapter, Ademola Omoniyi got 61votes to emerge Financial Secretary, Babatunde Adekoya is Secretary with 64 votes, Akintomide Frederick emerged Treasurer with 66 votes, Donatus Agbim emerged Assistant Secretary with 62 votes.
At Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) only the position of Treasurer was contested for and Comrade Goddy Sholaji Shewa emerged winner with seven votes.
The Apapa Chapter executives led by their Chairman, Mr. Olumide Fakanlu were all returned unopposed.
