ANLCA Wants FG To Place CRFFN On Budget

The Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has called on the Federal Government to fund the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) in order to allow it function properly.

ANLCA National President, Prince Olayiwola Shittu gave this charge during an interview with Shipping Position Daily in his office last week.

Shittu observed that the CRFFN is factored after the Council for Regulation of Engineering (COREN) which is being funded and controlled by the federal government.

Presently, he said that the government is controlling the affairs of the CRFFN without funding it to ensure optimal efficiency.

"If the government that did the executive Bill that brought out CRFFN wants it to work, then they should fund the CRFFN, the funding of COREN is done by the Federal Government, even the Chairman is appointed by President of the Federal Republic, but CRFFN’s case is a mixture because government is controlling and yet asking us to choose who leads us", he observed.

"If the government is controlling, they must put CRFFN on budget".

Shittu advised that the membership and subscription fees collected by the CRFFN should only be used to support the budget by the Federal Government, without the CRFFN necessarily becoming a revenue generating agency.

Shittu also lamented that the number of customs brokers in Nigeria are still largely inadequate. According to him, there are not more than 2000 licensed customs agents currently in operation, but stressed that this is not enough for Nigeria's population.

"There are 2000 customs brokers in America, but here we have two thousand licenses for a population of 175million" he said.
