The Africa Association of Professional Freight Forwarders and Logistics of Nigeria (APFFLON) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently address the deteriorating conditions of the Nigeria Police Force, particularly as it affects the state of police barracks and welfare of officers.
In a letter dated June 10, 2025, signed by its national President; Frank Ogunojemite and addressed to the President through the Office of the Chief of Staff, APFFLON expressed grave concern over what it described as the deplorable state of police barracks across the country, citing facilities such as Kam Salem and others as examples of decaying infrastructure.
The group, which describes itself as a professional advocacy body dedicated to trade and economic development, warned that the poor living conditions of police officers pose significant risks not only to their wellbeing but also to national security and public confidence in law enforcement.
“We write to bring to your immediate attention the pressing issues facing the Nigeria Police Force, particularly regarding the deteriorating state of police facilities,” the letter reads in part. “The ongoing challenges not only affect the wellbeing of our police officers but also have significant implications for public safety and trust in law enforcement across our nation.”
According to APFFLON, many police officers live in overcrowded, unhygienic environments without access to basic necessities such as clean water, functional sanitation, or adequate living quarters. These conditions, it stressed, contribute to low morale and operational inefficiency among officers.
“This situation not only demoralizes our brave men and women in uniform but also detracts from their ability to effectively serve and protect the populace,” the association stated.
APFFLON further noted that officers working under distressing conditions experience increased stress levels and reduced morale, which ultimately diminishes their performance on the job.
“It is well-documented that officers working in distressing conditions face increased stress and diminished morale, which ultimately affects their performance on the job. This can lead to a perpetuation of lawlessness and a lack of trust between the public and law enforcement,” the group said.
While the association acknowledged that some of the issues are systemic, it emphasized the urgency of the situation and appealed for immediate government intervention.
The appeal aligns with ongoing national conversations about the need for a comprehensive reform of the Nigeria Police Force, especially in areas relating to personnel welfare, infrastructural decay, and public accountability.
