The Tin Can Island Port Chapter Chairman of the Association of Registered Freight Forwarders of Nigeria (AREFFN), Chief Chiedu Ukachukwu, has congratulated the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, on the recent extension of his tenure and his appointment into the World Customs Organization (WCO).

In a congratulatory message made available to journalists on Wednesday, Chief Ukachukwu described the CGC’s reappointment/extension of tenure by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a reflection of the federal government’s confidence in Adeniyi’s capacity to continue driving meaningful reforms in the Nigeria Customs Service.

He lauded President Tinubu for sustaining the progressive momentum within the service by extending Adeniyi’s tenure, noting that the decision aligns with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in strengthening trade facilitation, revenue generation, and national security.

The AREFFN Tin Can Chairman hailed the Customs CG for the transformational leadership he has provided since assuming office. He specifically highlighted major initiatives such as the launch of the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) programme, the deployment of the B’Odogwu trade facilitation platform, and the consistent push for automation and modernization of Customs operations across commands.

“Under the CGC’s leadership, we have witnessed a Customs Service that is more professional, more responsive, and more committed to efficiency. The introduction of AEO is a game-changer that will enhance trust and compliance among stakeholders, while the B’Odogwu platform is already helping to reduce bottlenecks at Tin Can and beyond,” Ukachukwu said.

He added that CGC Adeniyi’s international recognition with his WCO Policy Commission appointment is a testament to his vast experience, strategic foresight, and diplomatic tact in driving Customs operations both locally and globally.

Chief Ukachukwu also commended the efforts of the Customs Area Controller of the Tin Can Island Port Command, Comptroller Frank Okechukwu Onyeka, for the strides made under his leadership. He noted that the CAC has demonstrated admirable commitment to stakeholder engagement, anti-smuggling operations, and the full implementation of the CGC’s trade facilitation agenda.

“The Controller at Tin Can has brought renewed energy to the command. His inclusive leadership style, attention to detail, and support for innovation have fostered better relationships between Customs and freight forwarders. We are proud of his achievements so far,” the AREFFN Chairman stated.

He urged all stakeholders to continue supporting the Customs leadership at both national and command levels for the collective growth of Nigeria’s maritime and trade sectors.
