...Assures Officers Of Welfare Remuneration

Also as part of the visit to formations in Lagos, the Comptroller General of Customs has assured officers of the service that welfare package will be of paramount under his leadership, even as he said that customs officers are among the least paid employees of the federal government.

Ali made this known at the Western Marine Command (WMC) of Customs yesterday, where he however threatened that officers caught in sharp practices will be jailed for 10 years.

According to him, the customs is one of the least paid parastatal of government, assuring that the remuneration will be reviewed.

He noted that since the service is one of the highest revenue collectors for the federal government, there is need to boost officers’ morale in order for them to perform better.

Ali said customs huge revenue and the need for improve workers welfare are some of the key issues that will be discussed with President Muhammadu Buhari.

"To whom much is giving much is expected", he stated.

The customs boss also added that officers of WMC will be trained on how to handle the two sea going vessels that were acquired by the last administration under Alhaji Dikko Abubakar.

He appealed to officers to be dedicated discipline, and for shun corrupt practices.

Earlier in his remark, Customs Area Controller WMC, Yusuf Umar said that the command is charged with the statutory function of suppression of smuggling activities and enforcement of other extant regulations that the service may assign to it from time to time.

According to him, “in order to keep our officers and men up to date with Ak47 recently issued by the service, we in collaboration with the Nigeria Army trained 112 officers and men on the use of the rifle at the end of which certificates were issued to them".
