Clarion Shipping West Africa Limited, an off dock vehicle terminal operator has said that the automobile policy put in place by former President Goodluck Jonathan has made the company to lay off some of its workers.
The foremost off dock vehicular terminal operator also said that since the introduction of the policy, the company has not handled enough volume of imported vehicles since 2013, which was one of the reasons behind downsizing of workers.

General Manager of the bonded vehicle terminal, Chief Frank Okocha in an exclusive chat with Auto Port Weekly last Week in Lagos, said that there is need for the Buhari led administration to cancel the policy, noting that it has led to massive job loss.
Okocha noted that between 2011 and early part of 2013, business activities at the terminal recorded quite a large number of vehicule transfer, but added that the policy needs a long term planning process.
The General Manager said in time past, the there used to be transfer of about 1000 units of vehicles on weekly basis, but lamented that in recent time, the terminal cannot boast of 100 vehicles in a month.
He said whenever vehicle importation receives a boost; some of the sacked workers will be recalled.
Okocha however stated that, notwithstanding the down turn, the relationship the company and RORO operator; Five Star Logistics terminal is still intact, even as he stressed that the automotive policy also affected the RORO terminal as regards vehicular importation.
"There was a time we have no option than to reduce our staff strength because we cannot continue to keep over bloated staff and expenses in business"

"If you go to Five Star Logistics terminal today, it is almost empty, but we still have a good relationship with them despite the challenges we have at the moment and they cannot give what they don't have "
He also stated that even the few units of vehicles under transfer to the off dock can not make it to the facility at Alakija, Lagos State due to the bad nature of such vehicles.
