The Badagry Youth and Security Summit scheduled to hold on Thursday, Oct. 30, will focus on addressing illegal checkpoints, human rights abuses, and extortion along the Badagry corridor.

Mr David Aladeotan, Vice-Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Lagos West, and Convener of the summit, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Badagry.

Aladeotan said the aim of the summit is to bring together security agencies, stakeholders, youth, and traditional rulers to deliberate on ways to strengthen security operations while curbing abuses and harassment.

“We have discovered that there are many illegal checkpoints across the Badagry corridor, leading to frequent cases of human rights abuses,” he said.

According to him, the proliferation of such checkpoints has also contributed to rising poverty levels in border communities.

“The summit will seek to address key security concerns and explore areas of collaboration to tackle challenges arising from multiple checkpoints,” he added.

Aladeotan said the Chairman, Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA)  Ibrahim Rauf Yemaren, will  serve as Chief Host of the event, while the Chairman, Badagry Local Government Area,  Babatunde Hunpe, and Kumayon Ajose Peter, Chairman, Olorunda LCDA, would serve as Co-Hosts.

He urged residents of Badagry communities to participate actively and express their views during the summit.
