Car Dealers at the Berger Automobile Market have appealed to the Lagos State Government to remove refuse heaps which now dot the market’s landscape, saying that the waste pollution is affecting business of car sales.
President General of the largest imported fairly used car market along Apapa Oshodi expressway, Chief Metchie Nnadiekwe made the appeal in a programme put together by the dealers and an on line auto sales platform; Cheki.com.ng, in Lagos.

Metchie said that the traffic congestion along the expressway also contributed to the large heaps of refuge which surround the market.
He noted that the government needs to clear the mess, adding that as tax payers in the state, the dealers have the right to a conducive environment for their business to thrive.
"We are paying our taxes without any assistance from the state government and LAWMA has abandoned the dealers, he lamented".
"As far Lagos state is concerned, those people that are supposed to involve themselves in one crime or the other are earning a living here ".
He added that the market has been able to engage millions of youths in Lagos who would have involved in some form of social vices in the state.
He told his guests from the Lagos State Ministry of Environment that the refuse dump surrounding the park are caused by neighbouring communities within Olodi Apapa, he said, "it is usually at night that they come out and dump the refuse along the road leading to the market.
Speaking on behalf of State Government, a representative of the Ministry of Environment; Dr. Afolabi Abiodun promised to clear the refuse.
He also agreed that refuse as nuisance to trade at the market where used cars are sold, adding that the Lagos State Government as a very responsible government will act on the dealers request instantly.
He said that as a federal road, saying that it is the first time since democracy that both the state and federal are under one government.
Abiodun also gave out telephone contact of the General Manager of LAWMA, adding that there is need to encourage sales of vehicles at Berger market.
According to him, for buyers to patronise the market, the environment must be free of pollution and any form of health hazard.
