The African Maritime Art Exhibition (AMAE) is set to unfold in Lagos with distinguished industry personalities at the forefront.

Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, will be the Special Guest of Honour, while Capt. Emmanuel Iheanacho, former Federal Minister of Interior, takes on the role of Chairman. The event, themed “THE CONVERGENCE…Maritime Meets ICT,” is scheduled to hold on Friday, November 24, 2023, at the Nigerian Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research in Lagos.

Mr. Idongesit Udoh, UK Government Country Lead & Programme Adviser, will serve as the Guest Speaker, addressing the vital topic of “ICT Disruptions for the Sustainability of the Blue Economy.” The exhibition, curated by Seidougha Linus Eyimiegha, promises to showcase the intersection of maritime and ICT through the lens of art.

AMAE, an initiative by Maritime TV Africa, explores the intersection of art and the blue economy. With marine landscape photography as its foundation, the exhibition features five remarkable artists and offers a unique perspective on the industry’s agenda, policies, and causes.

The Programme Director, Ezinne Azunna, highlights the significance of pushing the Blue Economy’s narratives into society’s consciousness through art. Notable personalities attending include leaders from the Nigerian Ports Authority, Nigerian Maritime Administration & Safety Agency, Nigerian Institute for Oceanography & Marine Research, Nigeria Customs Service, National Broadcasting Commission, National Inland Waterways Authority, and the Nigerian Shippers’ Council.

Azunna stresses that AMAE, conceptualized in 2022, aims to tell the stories of the maritime and blue economy sectors in Africa through aesthetic and semiotic elements. As a burgeoning field in Africa, Marine/Maritime Art serves as a tool for advancing causes and raising awareness of opportunities within the industry. The Blue Economy, estimated at $296 billion in Nigeria, holds the potential to create over 100 different careers and supports millions of jobs in Africa, with projections of continued growth in the coming years.
