The Bolloré group is reported to have mandated banks to work on a stock market float for a major rail freight project in Africa that was first unveiled by its Bolloré Africa Logistics (BAL) unit last year.
The project, known as Blueline, requires investment of between €2 billion and €2.5 billion and is expected to take eight years to complete.
It consists of completing a 2,740 km-long rail freight ‘loop’ linking the west African ports of Abijan in the Ivory Coast and Lomé in Togo, via two land-locked states, Burkina Faso and Niger.
According to Reuters, which quotes sources familiar with the plans, the float could take place on the Paris Bourse in the first half of 2016.
Provision is made to set up ‘bluezones’ along the rail freight ’loop’ – dry port facilities incorporating handling and storage facilities and equipped with optic fibre networks offering internet, telephony and data access.
