A clearing agent, Fidelis Ajayi, yesterday appeared before an Ebute Meta Magistrates' Court in Lagos over alleged theft of a Mack truck worth N2.5 million.
Ajayi, 38, who resides at No. 2 Rasa Adewuyi Close, Karimulaka, Egbeda, Lagos, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and obtaining by false pretences.
The Prosecutor, Cpl. Cyriacus Osuji, told the court that the crime was committed on July 21, 2012, at about 10a.m., at Egbeda, Lagos.

The Prosecutor, Cpl. Cyriacus Osuji, told the court that the crime was committed on July 21, 2012, at about 10a.m., at Egbeda, Lagos.
He said that the complainant, Mr Onoisewalu Osunbor, who lives in America, called the accused to take care of his truck with Reg. No. XT926fKJ for commercial purposes.
“The accused demanded for the original documents of the vehicle, which were handed over to him through one Pastor Femi, who had taken care of the truck in the past.
“The accused collected money from the complainant to repair the truck, and used the truck for commercial purposes for one and half years.
“The accused called the complainant and told him that the 10-wheel truck was stolen by the driver, who is still at large.
“The complainant had to come to Nigeria; the accused ran away but was later arrested by the police," he said.
Osuji said that the offences contravened Sections 285, 312 and 409 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Miss Y. B. Badejo-Okusanya, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case to April 14 for substantive trial.
