Clearing Agents In Court Over Alleged N300,000 Fraud  

Two clearing agents, who allegedly obtained N300,000 on the pretext of helping one Aderemi Kajola to clear his car on Thursday appeared before an Apapa Magistrates‘ Court, Lagos.
The accused, Ayuba Usman, 59; and Adamu Sadiq, 20, who are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretences are residents of Ajegunle area of Lagos.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Olusegun Kokoye, told the court that the accused, who entered a not-guilty plea, committed the offences on Aug. 26 at No.15 Kofo Abayomi St., Apapa, Lagos.
Kokoye said that the duo fraudulently obtained the sum of N300, 000 from Kajola with a promise to assist him clear his car.
He said that the accused did not clear the car as promised and also refused to refund the complainant’s money when asked to do so.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened sections 312 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 312 stipulates 15-year jail term for obtaining by false pretence if convicted.
The Magistrate, Mr M.A. Etti, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum.
Etti also directed that the sureties must be gainfully employed and should show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case to Dec. 29 for mention.
