French shipping company, CMA CGM has said that it is targeting 50 per cent reduction of carbon dioxide (Co2) emission by 2015.
This is contained in a document entitled “CMA CGM: A World-leading Container Shipping Group", released in Marseille, France last week.
The document said the effort was part of the company's corporate environmental value initiative, aimed at mitigating the impact of climate change.

The document said the effort was part of the company's corporate environmental value initiative, aimed at mitigating the impact of climate change.
It said that as a result of many environmental initiatives of the firm, the group had reduced its Co2 emission by 30 per cent since 2005.
The document said the company has been a pioneer in the development of eco-container since 2005, adding that the group strives, strives for innovation at every level and in all areas of its business.
“The group's fleet is equipped with the latest environmental technologies which have significantly reduced its vessels' energy consumption and greenhouse gas emission.
“More than just strategy of innovation that has priority; the environmental policy of CMA CGM is a corporate value.’’
The document, however, put the revenue base of the company at 16 billion dollars in 2013.
According to the document, the company puts innovation to the service of excellence and safety through an efficient and environmental-friendly fleet.
“Its position as a world leading group is also reflected in the company's fleet, with a total capacity of 1,556,000 TEU- 20-Foot Equivalent Unit (TEU).
“The Group has 428 vessels, of which 81 are owned by the company which is at the forefront of technological innovation.
“A strategy of constantly striving towards innovation and excellence has led to the group to taking delivery of a series of the World's three-largest vessels since 2012.’’
According to the document, the document said the largest vessels are CMA CGM Marco Polo, the CMA CGM Alexander Von Humboldt and the CMA CGM Jules Verne.
It said that these “giants of the seas'' were powerful additions to the fleet, equipped with advanced technologies in terms of environment and safety.
Founded in 1978 by Jacques Saade, CMA CGM is today France's leading and the world's third largest container shipping company.
